This course provides practical strategies to assist school leaders in creating a learning community that will shape a school’s shared vision, facilitate collaboration through teams and committees, and establish a climate that supports child-centered education in a collegial and caring environment, enhancing student achievement.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate exemplary mission, vision, and core values statements, identifying elements that foster a culture of excellence in education.
  2. Construct a school-specific mission, vision, and core values statement that clearly reflects the school’s unique context and aspirations.
  3. Collaboratively develop, promote, and implement a shared vision and mission for quality teaching and learning among stakeholders.
  4. Identify and articulate measurable goals and outcomes derived from the vision, demonstrating their anticipated impact on the school community and student achievement.

This course includes an examination of the differences between mission and vision, how to refine a shared vision, goal setting, and the essential characteristics of learning communities.

Lessons contain exercises that you will be asked to complete, and resources you can use for continuous learning. Use a personal journal to record your completed exercises and document your learning in this course. This guide can assist you with creating your personal journal. Your school district facilitator may request you submit your personal journal to show proof of course completion. Direction on where to submit your finished journal will be provided by your district facilitator, should they require it.
